If we told you that a City Government could; not want a private development on your property, offer to purchase your property to stop the development, not be willing to match the private developer’s offer, re-zone your property, declare your property a slum, develop a plan to build retail and office space on your property, vote to condemn your property, vote not to condemn your property, change the plan to build public facilities on your property, condemn your property, have the condemnation overturned, spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to exclude you from participating in any future development and force you to defend yourself in several court cases. Would you believe it? That is what happened in Stockbridge, GA. After acquiring 16 0f 18 properties, the City has borrowed over $35 million, built a new City Hall Complex surrounding our property and abandoned the redevelopment project.

About Us We are Regina and Mark Meeks, we own and operate a small florist shop in Stockbridge, GA. In 2003 a private developer approached us and wanted to purchase our property; we were astounded by their offer, $743,000 value, cash and exchange property. As the deal progressed the City of Stockbridge decided that they also wanted our property and made multiple offers in an effort to get us to sell our property (part of an assemblage) to spoil the sale for our neighbors. We refused to go along with their scheme and they quietly re-zoned the property making the property unusable for the developers plan. (see story) Like most average Americans, we did not know what to do, what our rights were, when to hire an attorney and nuts and bolts of eminent domain law or how it works. Our lack of knowledge and the lack of easily available resources led us to decision to try to create a resource center to help other property owners easily acquire the knowledge to make good decisions for their families. Our goal is to make a difference in the lives of Americans and to focus Americans attention on the many issues that effect or can effect private property ownership. We do not want another family to suffer the injustice of defending their property against elected and appointed officials that use the power of our government against us. Experience has taught us that you can successfully defend your rights; we also believe that America is still the best place on this earth to raise a family. We are optimistic and hope that you will join us in making America better for ourselves and to secure private property rights for future generations. We know that if we all do nothing to change the attitude of Citizens and Elected Leaders, nothing will change. We also know that if enough of us get involved needed changes will come.
